Stanley Brothers and Doc Watson-Rainbow Quest
Videos - Music Videos
|
Hailing from the mountains of Virginia, The Stanley Brothers and their group the Clinch Mountain Boys were on of the great blue-grass groups of the 1940s and 1950s, ranking in popularity with Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs. While Ralph Stanley has enjoyed wide-spread popularity beyond bluegrass circles following Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, Carter Stanley died within a year of filming this program. Here the Stanleys sing a number of old time favorites including Worried Man Blues, Clinch Mountain Backstep and I'm Thinking Tonight of My True Love. This is the only performance of the Stanley Brothers available on DVD.Doc Watson is one of the great guitar players as well as a wonderful singer of traditional Southern music, and over the past 40 years has done much to expand its appeal. His brilliant instrumental technique and warm rich voice are showcased here with accompaniment by Clint Howard on guitar and Fred Price on fiddle. The group performs Lee Highway Blues, Daniel Prayed, Rude and Ramblin' Man, and many more classics of traditional music.

Standing In The Shadows Of Motown (Dts)
- Detroit, Michigan, 1959. Berry Gordy gathers the best musicians from the city's thriving jazz and blues scene for his new record company: Motown. For the next 14 years these players are the heartbeat on My Girl, Baby Love, Ooo Baby Baby, Bernadette, I Was Made To Love Her, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Dancing In The Street, and every other hit from Motown's Detroit era. By the end of their phenomenal run, this unheralded group of musicians plays on more Number One hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and The Beatles combined, making them the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music. They call themselves the Funk Brothers. But no one knows their names...this is their story.
