Last Tango In Paris

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Going way back to 1972 you’ve got Last Tango In Paris with Marlon Brando adn Maria Schneider as directed Bernardo Bertolucci.

Highly provocative in it’s time, what would American parents say about it today? Would it stil be excitingly ‘bad’ or simply viewed as ‘near porn’?

“Crazed with grief after his wife commits suicide, Paul, an American expatriate, roams the streets of Paris until, while apartment hunting, he faces Jeanne, an unknown girl across an empty room. Brutally, without a word, he rapes the soon-compliant stranger. Paul stays at the scene after the rape. While arranging his wife’s funeral, Paul leases the apartment where he is to meet the puzzled girl for a series of frenzied afternoons.”

Nights in Rodanthe - Or Is It Rogaine

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Richard Gere and Diane Lane finally get to consummate their previous on screen romance in the weirdly titled “Nights in Rodanthe”.

Oh please, a lonely doctor gets together with the hotel manager during a storm. Force me to watch this and I’ll need Rogaine to regrow the hair I’ll be pulling out of my head to get out of the theatre.

Original Sin

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Original Sin with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie has been rated as one of the best little-known love stories in the last ten years. This 2001 movie version is unrated and available for less than $10.
“Original Sin belongs in the “so bad it’s good” category of languid potboilers, offering enough nudity, sexual chemistry, and far-fetched plotting to make it an enjoyable lazy-day diversion. Based on Cornell Woolrich’s novel Waltz into Darkness (previous filmed by François Truffaut as Mississippi Mermaid) and set in turn-of-the-century Cuba, the film traces a tailspin of amorous obsession when coffee plantation owner Luis (Antonio Banderas) discovers that his American mail-order bride (Angelina Jolie) is not the plain wife he’d expected, but a beautiful, scheming thief who’s after his fortune.” Jeff Shannon, Amazon

Friday October 3rd on the Sci-fi channel they’ll be premiering their new series “Sanctuary”. The preview looks good but the online information available from SciFi is boring.

“Sanctuary’s story takes place in a world that is different from our own, yet feels familiar. In Sanctuary, monsters move secretly throughout the world, both threatening and threatened, while one woman and her team search them out.”
